Russian Defense Ministry Successfully Launches SLBM Liner

 

Effective test launch of submarine-based ballistic missile (SLBM) Liner was carried out on Sept 29 from the Barents Sea, reports ITAR-TASS referring to Russian Defense Ministry’s press service.

Northern Fleet (NF) nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) Tula launched the missile which impacted on the Kura Range, Kamchatka. “The submarine crew displayed complete professionalism and high skills during preparations for test launch and while performing it”, emphasized the source.

The launch was carried out in standard conditions; the missile’s warheads reached assigned impact point in the prescribed time.

SLBM Liner has similar flight characteristics with Sineva missile, but is equipped with more advanced antimissile barrier overcoming system. The missile is capable to deliver up to 12 warheads, reported the Makeyev State Rocket Center, the missile’s developer.

This was the second trial of the Liner missile; the first one was conducted on May 20, 2011. The military said then it was test launch of SLBM Sineva.
