HMS Destroyer Takes Over Front-Line Duties off Libya

HMS Sutherland fires her main 4.5-inch gun as part of NATO’s Operation Unified Protector to safeguard the civilian population of Libya.

Destroyer HMS Liverpool has returned to front-line duties off Libya, taking over from frigate HMS Sutherland.

The type 23 had a busy week on the NATO tasking, running boarding operations against suspicious vessels and firing her 4.5-inch gun in support, using both high explosive and illumination rounds.

The weekend brought more activity for RAF jets against Gaddafi forces against numerous ground targets and military installations.
