The first unit of Maritime Action Ship (BAM), “Meteoro”, for the Spanish Navy has successfully finalized the last sea trials, prior to her commissioning on 28th. July. These sea trials have taken place on 17th. and 18th. July, in order to test the perfect performance of the platform and combat systems, as well as to evaluate the noise.
The “Meteoro”, launched on 16th. October 2009, is a moderately sized, high performance ship with great versatility regarding missions, enjoys a high level of system commonality with other Spanish Navy ships and has low acquisition and life cycle costs.
Her main missions are: – Protection and escort of other ships – Control of maritime traffic – Control and neutralisation of terrorist actions and piracy – Operations against drug trafficking and the traffic in persons – Maritime rescue and salvage operations – Crisis situation support and humanitarian assistance – Control of fishing legislation – Control of environmental and anti-pollution legislation
