USA: Hensel Phelps Construction Signs USD 70.3 Million Joint Strike Fighter Training Facility Contract

 

Hensel Phelps Construction Co., Orlando, Fla., is being awarded a $70,300,000 firm-fixed-price contract for construction of the F-35B Joint Strike Fighter training facility and training hangar at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.

The proposed new construction will consist of a new training and simulator facility and a new multi-story hangar facility.  The new training and simulator facility will include flight simulator spaces, training classrooms, briefing and debriefing rooms, network equipment rooms, administrative offices, and mechanical and electrical rooms.  The new training hangar will include an aircraft maintenance bay, shop, administrative areas, data network areas, briefing and debriefing rooms, and mechanical and electrical rooms.  Work will be performed in Beaufort, S.C., and is expected to be completed by September 2013.  Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.  This contract was competitively procured via the Navy Electronic Commerce Online website, with nine proposals received.  The Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Southeast, Jacksonville, Fla., is the contracting activity (N69450-11-C-1756).
