General Dynamics could also provide operational fielding, sustainment and technical support for the MDA-developed systems as they are being prepared for operational use by the warfighter community. The company will assist MDA site surveys and selection, environmental compliance, interface with the operational users, and site activation and weapons systems sustainment from initial deployment through transition and transfer to the lead Military Service.

“The General Dynamics team has continually supported several of MDA’s currently deployed BMD systems since their inception,” said Bill Cobb, general manager and vice president for General Dynamics Information Technology’s Combat Systems sector. “Our knowledge of bases, missions, infrastructure and personnel will allow us to quickly react to changing circumstances and customer requirements to ensure the MDA is responsive when warfighters call. ”

The MDA was created in 2002 to develop a layered integrated BMDS that will destroy all ranges of ballistic missiles by engaging them in all phases of flight. The MiDAESS program has several objectives: implement national engineering and support services for the BMDS mission across the enterprise, enhance the sharing of BMD expertise and knowledge across the agency, centralize the acquisition of support services manpower in a more efficient manner and reduce the agency overhead cost enterprise-wide.

Daniel Thompson, vice president of Missile Defense Programs at General Dynamics Information Technology , said, “General Dynamics will bring a proven team to help MDA solve its infrastructure and deployment support challenges. Our team’s experience across the entire BMDS enterprise and our understanding of the new BMD operating environment and mission imperatives will assist MDA migrate new capabilities from the labs and testing ranges to the Combatant Commanders at operational sites overseas.” [mappress] Source: Generaldynamics , April 14, 2011;
