UK: Princess Royal Visits HMS Albion in her Role as Ship’s Sponsor

The Princess Royal visited HMS Albion in her role as the Ship’s Sponsor. The visit marked the 10th anniversary of the launch of the ship, allowed Her Royal Highness to be updated on the busy life of the ship since her last visit, hear about Albion’s forthcoming deployment as well as meet many of the ship’s company.

During the visit, The Princess Royal awarded two Long Service and Good Conduct Medals to Petty Officer Rob Ellis and Leading Airman Aaron Eynon. The medals reflected 15 years Naval conduct of the highest standards.

The Commanding Officer of HMS Albion, Captain James Morley Royal Navy, said:

“It is a great honour and a priviledge to host our Sponsor onboard just before we deploy and the ship’s company were thrilled to meet her.”

Every Royal Navy Warship has a Sponsor who has personal ties with the ship throughout it’s Commission. Whilst the ship’s company may change every few years, a ship’s Sponsor is the one constant in the life of a ship. The Princess Royal launched HMS Albion in March 2001 and has maintained a close interest in the ship’s activities ever since.
