US Navy receives 12th littoral combat ship Omaha

The US Navy has received its 6th Independence-variant and the 12th overall littoral combat ship Omaha (LCS 12) from shipbuilder Austal.

The ship was delivered during a ceremony in Mobile, United States at Austal’s manufacturing facility.

The navy took possession of future USS Omaha (LCS 12) after the 127-meter ship completed her acceptance trials on May 12, this year.

 

Following delivery, a post-delivery maintenance availability and crew training and familiarization exercises in Alabama, Omaha will sail to California for commissioning. According to the commanding officer of the ship, Cmdr. Mike Toth, Omaha is set to leave Mobile in November, while the commissioning ceremony is expected to take place in January next year.

Omaha will be homeported in San Diego with sister ships USS Independence (LCS 2), USS Coronado (LCS 4), USS Jackson (LCS 6), USS Montgomery (LCS 8) and USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10).
