Watch the Russian Oscar II class submarine Tomsk launch supersonic Granit missile

Russian Navy’s nuclear-powered Oscar II class submarine Tomsk has launched a Granit cruise missile as part of her training cycle.

The supersonic cruise missile was fired from a submerged position in the Sea of Okhotsk towards a land target at the Kura Test Range, Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet press service announced.

In addition to the missile launch, Russian frogmen completed several evolutions aboard the submarine.

Tomsk is the Russian Navy’s tenth Project 949A (Antey) submarine (NATO reporting name: Oscar II) which started construction in 1991 and entered service in 1996.

The submarine’s surface displacement of 12,500 to 14,700 tons allows it to carry up to 24 Granit cruise missiles, weighing 7,000 kg each.
