US Navy awards Electro-Optics Sensor system contract

The U.S. Navy has awarded Canadian Commercial Corp a $49.5 million contract for the Electro-Optics Sensor system for the Military Sealift Command’s Situational Awareness System program (MSC-EOS).

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, the MSC-EOS system will be installed on Military Sealift Command and Navy and Coast Guard vessels with the aim of providing enhanced visual imagery to augment existing electronic sensors.

The new system will improve low-visibility and night navigation, coastal observation and surveillance, identification friend or foe and reconnaissance and surveillance. It will also improve real-time situational awareness and threat warning and help in documenting navigational hazards.

Work will be performed in Burlington, Ontario, Canada and is expected to be completed by April 2022.
