US Navy explicitly bans sharing of nude photos after scandal

The U.S. Navy has updated its regulations to explicitly ban the sharing of intimate, private photos without consent, the service announced Tuesday.

The announcement comes following a scandal last month that included hundreds of U.S. Marines sharing nude photos of their fellow, female service members.

Under the new regulations, everyone caught sharing nude photos will be violating navy rules.

The changes were issued by acting Navy Secretary Sean Stackley and are effective immediately.

The navy previously did not have explicit rules banning such conduct and a navy spokeswoman told The Virginian Pilot that the regulation would help the commanders maintain good order and discipline by holding Sailors and Marines accountable.
