Indian Navy frigate INS Betva upright again

Indian Navy P-16A-class frigate INS Betwa which tipped over on her side during undocking in December last year has been made upright again, the Indian Navy informed on Thursday.

The operation was a joint effort of workers at Naval Dockyard Mumbai and the salvage firm M/s Resolve Marine, specifically contracted for the operation.

The complete salvage operation involving complex hydrodynamic calculations and rigging up of measuring and monitoring systems was completed in less than two months, the Indian Navy said.

As the ship was undergoing major refit and mid-life up-gradation since Apr 2016 and the majority of the equipment/ machinery had already been removed for routine servicing or replacement with upgraded equipment, the navy is confident that the ship will be made fully operational by her scheduled date of refit completion by April 2018.
