The North Atlantic Treaty Organization has officially started a new central Mediterranean Sea operation called Sea Guardian wherein three ships and two submarines are already conducting their first patrols.

The operation started November 9 and will run through November 17 in its initial phase. Further patrols will occur in line with an approved schedule of operations, the organization has said.

In its latest video, NATO provides a detailed look into why the operation was organized in the first place and what are the operation’s goals.

The video also touches upon other aspects of maritime activities, including training and supporting scientific research, and deserves 20 minutes of your time.
