US Navy awards Raytheon $178M for ESSM missile production

The U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command has awarded Raytheon a $177.9 million contract modification for the production of Evolved Seasparrow Missiles Block I.

Under the modification, Raytheon will provide 186 all up rounds, inert operation missiles, spare components, shipping containers, and provide other production related support.

The ESSM is a short range, self defence weapon, optimized for anti-ship missile defense. It was developed by the U.S. Navy and nine of the other 11-member nations of the NATO SEASPARROW Consortium. Members of the Consortium include Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and the United States.

This contract modification includes foreign military sales to Spain, Thailand, and United Arab Emirates.
