U.S. Navy’s command ship USS Mount Whitney arrived to Klaipeda, Lithuania on June 30 for a scheduled port visit having departed Stockholm, Sweden a day earlier.

During the visit, the USS Mount Whitney commanding officer and a delegation will meet with the Commander of the Lithuanian Navy, mayor of Klaipėda city, and attend other formal events.

USS Mount Whitney and Lithuanian Navy sailors will visit each others’ ships and take part in a social project with Lithuania’s SOS Children’s Villages Association.

Ships of the US Navy conduct port visits to Klaipėda every year. The most recent previous visit was made by USS Donald Cook on April 14-16.

The Blue Ridge class command ship was deployed to Exercise BALTOPS 2016 which took place in the Baltic Sea in June to enhance interoperability of participating nations and showcase allied resolve to protect the Baltic Sea region.
