PHOTO: Final Russian Kilo-class sub is rolled out

The Russian Ministry of Defence has shared photos of its newest Kilo-class submarine Kolpino being rolled out during the launching ceremony held May 31 at Admiralty Shipyards in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Kolpino is the last of six Russian Navy Project 636.3 diesel-electric submarines built for the Russian Navy’s Black Sea Fleet.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice-Admiral Alexander Fedotenkov praised the work done so far and touched upon the country’s plans for submarines for the Pacific Fleet.

The Vice-Admiral said that work on the creation of a new generation of diesel-electric submarines was under way and that the 5th generation boats would be even more technically advanced.
