South African, Royal Navy of Oman naval ships dock in Sri Lanka

Two Royal Omani Navy ships and one South African Navy frigate arrived at the Port of Colombo, Sri Lanka on February 12.

The Royal Navy of Oman ships Al Shamikh and Al Seeb are on their way home after participating in the bilateral Indian Navy-Omani Navy exercise ‘Naseem Al Bahr’ conducted in the Arabian Sea from January 22 to February 9. The ships will stay in Colombo Harbour until February 13.

The South African Navy ship SAS Spioenkop stopped at the Port of Colombo while en route to Goa to take part in a Multinational Naval Exercise, IBSAMAR, involving the navies of India, Brazil and South Africa.

The Valour class frigate previously participated in the International Fleet Review, hosted by the Indian Navy in Vishakhapatnam from February 4 – 8, 2016.

The South African Naval ship will stay in Colombo Harbour till February 15 and the ship’s complement is due to participate in several programmes organized by the Sri Lanka Navy. An Open Day will also be held onboard Spioenkop to enhance the inter-personal interaction between the SLN and SAN personnel.
