Pakistani Navy Chief visits UK

Pakistani Navy Chief, Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah, paid a visit to EU NAVFOR’s operational headquarters in London, UK, February 11.

He was welcomed by the Deputy Commander, Rear Admiral Jonas Wikstrӧm. During the visit both Admirals welcomed the good cooperation that exists at sea between Operation Atalanta and Pakistan warships in the mutual fight against Somali-based piracy.

There was also consensus that whilst pirate attacks against merchant ships and seafarers have been suppressed in recent years, there was still a need for vigilance or piracy would return to the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden.

While in the UK, the Admiral also visited Royal Navy’s Type 45 destroyer, the HMS Dauntless, and toured the HMS Victory later in the day.

Admiral Zakaullah was given a tour of HMS Dauntless including the bridge and operations room and inspected a guard of honour on the flight deck.

Fleet Commander, Vice Admiral Sir Philip Jones, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Admiral Zakaullah to Navy Command headquarters and an excellent opportunity to discuss the good relations between our two navies and an increasing level of productive interaction between our ships.”
