Harry S. Truman CSG Launches COMPTUEX

The Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group began its composite training unit exercise after departing Naval Station Norfolk, Sept. 2.

COMPTUEX is a series of training scenarios designed to certify HSTCSG as a deployment-ready fighting force capable of completing overseas operations.

The exercise, which includes warfare scenarios such as simulated surface, air, undersea, strike and electronic attacks, is evaluated and graded by Commander Carrier Strike Group 4, the U.S. Atlantic Fleet’s deployment certification team. CSG-4 also assesses events such as visit, board, search and seizure; live-fire evolutions; and strike group formations.

The simulations replicate real-life scenarios enabling various units and aircraft to prove deployment readiness and the ability to fight and defend the ship.

The exercise provides the first opportunity for Carrier Strike Group 8 to provide oversight, at sea, for the entire strike group. COMPTUEX follows individual unit training, smaller group training, and pierside synthetic training and exercises.

HSTCSG is scheduled to deploy later this year and includes USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), Carrier Air Wing 7, Destroyer Squadron 28, USS Anzio (CG 68), USS Gravely (DDG 107), USS Bulkeley (DDG 84), USS Gonzalez (DDG 66) and USS Ramage (DDG 61).
