Black Duke Guards Dartmouth Regatta

The Royal Navy frigate HMS Monmouth carried out the duties of the Guard Ship at the Dartmouth Regatta.

Monmouth, known informally as the ‘Black Duke’ after James Scott, the Duke of Monmouth, sailed for Dartmouth in the midst of her sea trials in order to carry out this regional engagement opportunity.

HMS Monmouth was in the port as the official Regatta Guard Ship, hosting a reception and capability demonstration on board for a number of civic dignitaries, members of the regatta committee, sponsors of the regatta and representatives from Britannia Royal Naval College.

She also gave the public a rare opportunity to tour a Navy warship during the weekend.

Monmouth will spend the next few weeks completing her sea trials before undertaking training and endorsement which will get her ready to be deployed on operations whenever and wherever tasked.
