Ten Fishermen Rescued after Vessel Engine Failure

Sri Lanka Navy’s vessel Udara rescued ten local fishermen onboard multi-day fishing trawlers which were drifting 63 km South East of Hambantota due to an engine failure.

Promptly responding to the request made by Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, the Navy dispatched its vessel from the port of Galle on August 28, to aid the fishermen onboard trawlers Manusath and Isuruputha 03.

Upon arrival, the ship’s crew extended technical assistance, and since the condition of the trawlers were beyond repairs, they were towed safely to Hambantota fishery harbour amidst rough sea conditions on August 30.
