Canada’s Minister of National Defence Tours HMCS Calgary

The Honourable Jason Kenney, Canadian Minister of National Defence, was on board Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Calgary during exercise TRIDENT FURY on May 10th to witness Canadian military interaction in the Pacific Ocean with the United States Navy and Coast Guard.

Minister Kenney boarded a Sea King Helicopter in Vancouver and landed on board HMCS Calgary during the exercise and had the opportunity to witness the crew conducting various drills and manoeuvres.

Exercise TRIDENT FURY is a naval exercise organized by Maritime Forces Pacific in Esquimalt, British Columbia. The exercise tests air and surface joint operations including maritime surveillance, live air and surface weapons firing, and anti-submarine warfare training.

Naval vessels participating this year include Her Majesty’s Canadian Ships Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, and Yellowknife, United States Ship Cape St. George, United States Coast Guard Cutter Active, and RCN Orca-class vessel Wolf.
