USS McFaul Celebrates St. Patrick’s Day in Savannah, Georgia

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS McFaul (DDG 74) visited Savannah, Georgia, for its annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration, March 16-18.

McFaul Sailors marched in the city’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade Tuesday, one of the largest processions of its kind in the country.

McFaul Sailors also attended the city’s annual Jasper Green Ceremony on Monday, which honors William Jasper, a Soldier who was mortally wounded defending the city against the British during the Siege of Savannah in 1779. Today, the ceremony honors not only Jasper, but also all military personnel who serve.

Navy port visits such as this one offer visiting Sailors a series of engagements with key community leaders and organizations, featuring public interaction with Sailors and ships designed to educate Americans about the Navy’s mission and importance to national security.
