JSS Karel Doorman Brings Aid Supplies to Freetown, Sierra Leone

The Netherlands Navy’s Joint Logistics Support Ship Karel Doorman arrived in Freetown, Sierra Leone and started unloading supplies yesterday, November 19, to help fight Ebola.

The vessel delivered the much needed aid in the means of protective clothing, beds, medical equipment and other, totalling over 1,000 tons of aid supplies that the vessel brought to West Africa.

JSS Karel Doorman departed its port on November 6 and along its way docked in Southampton to pick up more supplies. After Freetown, the vessel will go to Conakry, Guinea and then to Liberia.

After unloading its cargo, the vessel will take on transport tasks in the Gulf of Guinea and, where possible, provide logistic support to European aid workers who are there to fight the Ebola outbreak. HNLMS Karel Doorman will return to the Netherlands in 3 months.
