Italian Navy to Receive Green Globe Banking Award

The Italian Navy will receive the Green Globe Banking Award Ad Honorem 2014 on October 23.

The award is for monitoring the parameters of seawater and marine environment and thus spreading relevant principles of environmental sustainability.

Recipients of the Green Globe Banking Award, established back in 2010, are individuals, public agencies, organizations (banking or non-banking), which have distinguished themselves on environment responsibility issues.

The active participation to the EU program Marine Strategy, is proof of the Italian Navy’s constant commitment to the protection of the marine environment and its invaluable legacy.

In this respect, the new project “Green Fleet” provides for the construction of eco-efficient green diesel fueled units, to reduce the use of petroleum derivatives and consequently curb air pollutants emissions in accordance with the EU and Italian National Energy Strategies guide lines.

In this sense, the Italian Navy is in the fore front in activities where her personnel and units are deployed to social, humanitarian and scientific operations, in accordance with her dual–use vocation.

The prestigious prize will be awarded next October 23 in Piazza Belgioioso in Milan during the Green Globe Banking Award ceremony.
