Italian Task Group Arrives in Cape Town

The Italian aircraft carrier, ITS Cavour, arrived in Cape Town on February 5,within the framework of an African humanitarian tour, the News 24 reported.

 

ITS Cavour was accompanied by the frigates Bergamini and Etna. During the visit to Cape Town, scheduled to take place from 5 to 11 February, the ships’ crews will organize a range of humanitarian aid activities and engage with the local community.

ITS Cavour left Italy on November 13 and started her participation in the African Humanitarian tour.

The Italian Navy Chief Giuseppe De Giorgi explained that the mission will pave the way for bolstering relations with regional navies, especially that of Mozambique, where the two navies were expected to ink a cooperation deal, according to the Tactical News Magazine.

Their recent stop was in Kenya in mid-January, followed by Mozambique, and they will visit Angola, the DRC, Nigeria and Morocco, among others.

While in Cape Town the aircraft carrier will be opened to visitors at Portside Road until February 10th.
