India Imports about USD 4.78 Billion of Arms in 2013
INS VIKRAMADITYA

India received about USD 4.78 billion worth arms and military equipment from Russia last year, the RIA Novosti reported.

The purchase included aircraft carrier Vikramaditya, gunsihps, warplanes and other equipment.

The Indian Navy has officially taken over INS Vikramaditya, Russian former aircraft carrier, also known as Admiral Gorskov, last month when the warship arrived to her new home.

The carrier was purchased by India on 20 January after years of negotiations at a final price of USD 2.35 billion.

India has been the biggest client of the Russian arms industry since 2007, purchasing about third of all Russian exports in 2013.

Over the recent period, the Indian Navy has been in the center of media attention, due to a number of accidents that marred its reputation.
