Russia to Get 40 Warships in 2014
BOREI CLASS SUBMARINE

The Russian Navy will receive 40 new warships and auxiliary vessels in 2014, as reported by RIA Novosti.

Deputy Commander of the Navy, Rear Admiral Viktor Bursuk said that the Navy would commission two new submarines into the fleet during this year.

The first submarine is a Borey-class nuclear powered submarine, the Vladimir Monomakh, which is the fourth-generation of the class that will replace the Delta III and Typhoon Class submarines. Borey class is the first class of submarines developed by Russia since the soviet era.

The second submarine, which will be commissioned in 2014, is a Varshavyanka-class submarine.

Aside to submarines, an auxiliary vessel is expected to join the fleet in 2014, a Project 21300 ship Igor Belousov. The ship is being built at JSC Admiralteyskie Verfi shipyard, located in St. Petersburg. The main objectives of the ship will be rescuing crews from distressed submarines, along with supplying submarines and surface ships with high-pressure air, electric power and life saving equipment.
