Sub Lieutenants to Visit Qeen Elizabeth Carrier in Build

A group of 7 Sub Lieutenants from the current Surface System Engineering Management Course along with their course manager Lieutenant Alex Goddard recently traveled from HMS Sultan to Rosyth Royal Dockyard to visit the Queen Elizabeth (QNLZ) Carrier in build.

Their visit included an introduction from QNLZ’s current Senior Naval Officer Captain Simon Petitt, before a comprehensive presentation from the Senior Engineer ranging from the F35 Joint Strike Fighter right through to the challenge of powering and operating the huge carrier.

In addition in the afternoon the group visited the flightdeck, sickbay, automated magazine systems, operations room, engine rooms, Senior Rates dining mess and Ship’s Control Centre.

Student Sub Lieutenant Alex Chenery said:

“The scale of the work going on here is very impressive.

“As a junior engineer, this was a fantastic opportunity to look around the carrier as she’ll be the flagship of the Navy for most of my future career.

“The technology on board gave us a real insight into how the RN is going to progress as more and more new platforms come into service.”
