Russian Navy to Deploy 10 Warships in Mediterranean Sea

Russian Navy is going to deploy about 10 warships to the Mediterranean Sea, reports Xinhua news citing Russian Defense Ministry.

The task force which will feature anti-submarine ships, landing ships, auxiliary vessels, patrol boats and cruisers, will focus primarily on keeping a close watch on the situation in the region.

The Ministry’s press service said that the operational force is going to be comprised from units serving within the Northern, Black Sea and Baltic fleets and occasionally from the Pacific Fleet.

The group will also be in charge of rescue operations, countering piracy, drug trafficking and arms smuggling in addition to providing humanitarian aid.
