Bae Systems Pens USS Russell Contract

Bae Systems San Diego Ship Repair Inc., located in San Diego Calif., has received a USD 49.7 million  modification to previously awarded contract to definitize the USS Russell’s (DDG 59) extended dry-docking selected restricted availability.

An extended dry-docking includes the planning and execution of depot-level maintenance, alterations, and modifications that will update and improve the ship’s military and technical capabilities.

This modification includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the deal to USD 50.2 million.

In late January 2013, the Russell swapped hulls with her sister ship Halsey (DDG 97) changing her homeport from Pearl Harbor, Hi., to San Diego, Calif.

USS Russell is the ninth arleigh burke class guided missile destroyer and the second ship in the US Navy to bear the name.

Work will be performed in San Diego, Calif., and is expected to be completed by February 2014.
