Singapore Navy Recognizes Paracounsellors for Their Service

On 15 Jan, 12 paracounsellors from the Republic of Singapore Navy received awards recognising their service from Guest of Honour, Dr Osman Bin Maliki at the Biennial Paracounsellors Appreciation Event held at The Chevrons.

ME3 Ching Yeow Song was one of three personnel awarded the Distinguished Service Award. This is in recognition of the zeal he displayed as a paracounsellor to inmates in the detention barracks.

ME3 Ching felt that although paracounselling is no easy feat, the gratification comes when you are able to help troubled individuals mend their ways.

“There have been occasions when the client would not turn over a new leaf despite multiple counselling sessions,” reminisced ME3 Ching. “However, once they realise that we genuinely care for them, they would be motivated to mend their ways and it feels terrific to know that you have made a difference in someone’s life”.

“I strongly encourage those who have a heart to serve to come forward and render their assistance. Although your contribution and commitment may not see immediate results, it will definitely reap a harvest in the long run,” shared ME3 Ching.

At the end of the event, a new cloth badge for paracounsellors was unveiled.
