GE Delivers LM2500 Gas Turbines for RANs Third AWD

GE Marine has handed over two LM 2500 aeroderivative gas turbines to ASC in Adelaide, Australia, the company informed.

The gas turbines will power the Navy’s third Air Warfare Destroyer.

This type of gas turbine is designed with a single-rotor gas turbine and an aerodynamically coupled power turbine.

ASC, Air Warfare Destroyer project shipbuilder, is building all three Hobart-class AWDs.

The Hobart class is a ship class of three air warfare destroyers being built for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). Planning for a class to replace the Adelaide class frigates and restore the capability last exhibited by the Perth class destroyers began in  2000, initially under acquisition project SEA 1400, which was redesignated SEA 4000.

Royal Australian Navy will also use the LM 2500 gas turbines to power two Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) ships.
