Sri Lanka Navy's 4Rs Rescue Person from Drowning

Sri Lanka Navy’s Rapid Response Rescue and Release Squadron (4Rs) rescued a person from drowning in Kalu Ganga at Kaluthara on 02nd May 2012. The victim had fallen into the river from the Kaluthara Railway Bridge. He is a 56 year old resident at Waskaduwa.

The Navy has established the Rapid Response Rescue and Release Squadron (4Rs) to provide life saving and relief assistance during natural disasters such as floods, rough sea conditions etc. The squadron consists of naval personnel specialized in disaster management and has a fleet of craft especially designed for its operations.

4Rs has a number of achievements to its credit within a short period of time since its inception. Among them, saving the lives of a student, who was drowning in the surging waters of Kala Wewa on 05th February 2012, and a young woman, who desperately tried to drown herself in the Kalu Ganga on 17th December 2011, figures prominently.
