USA: Pearl Harbor Starts its Annual Fundraising Drive

Pearl Harbor Starts its Annual Fundraising Drive

USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52) recently began its annual fundraising drive in support of the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS).

Led by Chief Storekeeper (SW) Aundra Lockett, the ship donated in excess of $16,000 last year and has a goal of raising $18,000 this year.

The ship offers several ways to contribute to the NMCRS. The majority of the crew will utilize the traditional method of allotting money monthly via direct deposit from their pay account or through cash donations. Crew members are also given the opportunity to buy chits, allowing the holder special privileges.

Among the privileges available is a 72-hour stay in the Commander of Troops stateroom and authorization to wear civilian clothes.

I wanted to help my fellow Sailors and Marines,” said Operations Specialist 2nd Class (SW) Mollie Keevert of Ozark, Ala., “and this is one fun way I can personally contribute.

The ship will also be raffling off the opportunity for a crew member to have the first kiss on the pier upon return to San Diego, as well as the chance to be the commanding officer, executive officer or command master chief for a day.

Pearl Harbor deployed in January 2003 and is at sea in the Central Command area of operations supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
