GDEB, US Navy Sign Two Contracts

 

The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat two contracts worth $25.2 million to perform nuclear submarine and carrier maintenance and modernization work in Groton and Bremerton, Wash.

Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics.

Under the terms of the first contract, worth $15.4 million, Electric Boat will perform the planning, engineering and design, prefabrication and shipyard tasks required to complete a dry-docking continuous maintenance availability for the Los Angeles attack submarine USS Annapolis.

The work will take place at Electric Boat’s Groton shipyard and at its peak will engage about 150 employees. It is scheduled for completion by December 2012.

Electric Boat also was awarded $9.8 million to support nuclear submarine and carrier repair work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Wash. The company’s skilled tradespeople will be assigned to maintenance availabilities on the submarines USS Kentucky (SSBN-737), USS Pennsylvania (SSBN-735), USS Seawolf (SSN-21), USS Connecticut (SSN-22), USS Ohio (SSGN-726) and USS Michigan (SSGN-727), and the aircraft carrier USS Reagan (CVN-76).

This work is expected to be completed by October 2012.
