Two NAVSEA Employees Receive Asian American Engineer of Year Award

Two Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) employees received the Asian American Engineer of the Year award March 3, in Albuquerque, N.M.

NAVSEA’s Jae-Yoo Ko and Allen Lim were both recipients of the award which recognizes exceptional contributions of American scientists, engineers and corporate leaders with Asian ethnicity, in their fields of expertise and within their communities.

“Both Jae-Yoo and Allen have earned this honor through hard work and dedication,” said Rear Adm. Dave Duryea, deputy commander for Undersea Warfare (SEA 07). “That both Navy awardees from this year’s group of AAEOY winners are from NAVSEA demonstrates the quality people we have here, and I am proud that both recipients support the undersea community.”

Ko is the deputy assistant program manager in the Program Executive Office, Submarines; responsible for delivery and U.S. Navy acceptance of Virginia class submarines. Ko was named an AAEOY for his sustained leadership and programmatic contributions in the design, development and delivery of superior warfighting capabilities to the U.S. attack submarine force of the future.

Lim is the principal assistant program manager for mission systems with the Advanced Undersea Systems program office within SEA 07. He is responsible for the acquisition and life cycle management of advanced submarine research and development systems. Lim received the award for his employment of rigorous system and test, and evaluation engineering principles in providing the nation’s warfighter with cutting-edge undersea systems.

Team Submarine unites PEO Submarines; the deputy commander, Undersea Warfare; the deputy commander, Undersea Technology; the Naval Undersea Warfare Center; and the Submarine Maintenance Engineering, Planning, and Procurement (SUBMEPP) Activity; which were once separate submarine-related commands and activities, into a single “submarine-centric” team.
