UK: HMS Liverpool Departs Liverpool Cruise Terminal

The Liverpool Daily Post reported yesterday that the Royal Navy’s warship HMS Liverpool departed from the Liverpool Cruise Terminal.

Danielle Thomas’ rich soprano voice filled the air with You’ll Never Walk Alone and Land of Hope and Glory from the landing stage.

Five gun salutes were given as she passed the Pier Head again and finally Fort Perch Rock.

“We’ve had a wonderful time here for our five-day farewell visit. I can’t believe so many people are here to see us off. Even my boss was streaming by the sight,” Commander Williams said.

“The crew has had a fantastic time in the city and everyone has made us so welcome,” he added.

HMS Liverpool is a Type 42 destroyer of the Royal Navy. She was built by Cammell Laird in Birkenhead and launched on 25 September 1980 by Lady Strathcona, the wife of Euan Howard who was Minister of State for Defence back then. Liverpool is the last Batch 2 Type 42 in service.
