Indian Navy Conducts Medical Camp for Civil Population

Two multi-specialty ‘Medical and Healthy Life Style Awareness Camps’ were successfully conducted on 21 and 22 Jul 11 for the population of Kamorta Is.

The medical camps were organized by INHS Dhanvantari under the aegis of the Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC). On 21 Jul the medical team conducted the first Medical Camp at Vikas Nagar in Kamorta Island and the second Medical Camp on 22 Jul at the Govt. Model Secondary School, Kamorta.

The response of the public to the camps conducted was enormous and immensely gratifying. A total of 278 patients attended the medical camps. The general OPD benefitted 178 patients with varying lifestyle diseases, especially diabetes and hypertension. 176 Ultrasound tests were also carried out by the Radiologist using State of art portable Ultrasound machine. The Eye OPD benefitted 176 cases out of which 10 were Cataract, 15 were refractive error, who have prescribed glasses and other eye cases.

The specific medical requirements of ladies of the islands were exclusively attended by the visiting lady doctor during the camps. A lecture on ‘Healthy Life Style’ was also delivered by visiting specialist for people attending the camps.

This is the second time in past two months that medical camps have been conducted by ANC at the Kamorta Island. The visiting Senior Medical Officer, Surgeon Captain KM Adhikari congratulated the medical team for this successful endeavour and emphasized on the regular conduct of such medical camps across all the far flung islands which will benefit the general population of the islands.
