USA: Navy Operational Support Center NY City Names Top Sailors of 2nd Quarter 2011


Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) New York City announced Sailors of the Quarter winners for the second quarter 2011, for Selective Reservists (SELRES) and Full Time Support (FTS) staff, July 19.

Engineman 1st Class Grant Thornhill, attached to Naval Reserve Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Seaframe Det. 206 as NROWS coordinator and education service officer, was named SELRES Sailor of the Quarter.

Yeoman 2nd Class Kim Villegas, attached to Naval Reserve Expeditionary Port Unit 102 as assistant administration officer was named SELRES Junior Sailor of the Quarter.

Master-At-Arms 3rd Class Ashley Crawford, attached to Naval Reserve Operational Support Unit (OSU) 0633 as operations assistant and security officer, was named the SELRES Bluejacket of the Quarter.

Engineman 1st Class (SW/EXW) Eric Opokuaddo, NOSC New York City anti-terrorism training supervisor, facilities manager, funeral honors supervisor and command fitness leader, was named FTS Sailor of the Quarter.

Logistics Specialist 2nd (SW) Safran Beaton NOSC New York City mobilizations petty officer and command Drug and Alcohol Programs (DAPA) advisor, was named the FTS Junior Sailor of the Quarter.

Personnel Specialist 3rd Class Roberto Lopez, command career counselor assistant and personnel and educational service officer clerk, was named FTS Bluejacket of the Quarter.

NOSC New York City Command Master Chief (AW) Eric Boykins pointed out the values possessed by the Sailors selected for this honor.

“These Sailors represent the best of the increasing number of Sailors who serve as role models of professionalism and personal dedication,” he said. “Throughout this quarter, these Sailors demonstrated superior performance, leadership and dedication to self-improvement.”

NOSC New York City is one of the largest Reserve centers on the East Coast, with more than a thousand drilling Reserve Component Sailors. The command is responsible for providing mission-capable units and individuals for mobilization to the Navy and Marine Corps team throughout the full range of operations during peacetime and in times of war.
