Royal Australian Navy Chief Gets Prestigious Military Award

The Chief of Navy of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), Vice Admiral (VADM) Russell Crane, was conferred Singapore’s prestigious military award, the Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera) [or Meritorious Service Medal (Military)], by Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at an investiture held at the Ministry of Defence this afternoon.

The medal was awarded to VADM Crane in recognition of his significant efforts and contributions in forging closer bilateral ties between the RAN and the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN). Under Vice Admiral Crane’s leadership, professional exchanges between the two navies have increased in scope and depth. The two navies interact across a broad spectrum of bilateral and multilateral activities. VADM Crane also strongly supported efforts to work with Singapore to enhance maritime security. These interactions have enhanced the professionalism of both navies and fostered mutual understanding and camaraderie among its officers and men.

VADM Crane, who is in Singapore from 23 to 24 May 2011, called on Dr Ng and Chief of Navy Rear Admiral Ng Chee Peng before the investiture.
