USA: BMT Fleet Technology Announces Three Day Workshop on Fatigue and Fracture Analysis of Ship Structures

BMT Fleet Technology Ltd, a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, the leading international maritime design, engineering and risk management consultancy, has announced today that its next Fatigue and Fracture Analysis workshop will take place during October 2011.

This popular three-day workshop held in Houston, Texas, will be of interest to Naval Architects, Engineers and Ship Superintendents who are responsible for vessel design, maintenance and operation. Senior students engaged in naval architecture studies would also benefit. The materials will be presented and discussed by recognized experts in the application of fatigue and fracture mechanics-based methodologies including Dr. Roger Basu, Director, Research and Development at the American Bureau of Shipping.

The workshop presents tools and techniques for quantitative fatigue and fracture assessment of ship structures considering the materials, structural geometry and loading. Practical application examples are used to reveal the value of this technology in supporting safe and cost-effective material, design and maintenance decisions.

This fall’s course will include additional information related to the design and damage tolerance assessment of marine aluminium structures. This addition to the workshop will provide attendees with the understanding and the tools required to assess and compare the design and expected performance of aluminium and steel structures.
